Where do you start when you are looking for staff for your new or existing forum?

What kind of questions do you ask the prospects that would like to join your team? What are your expectations?

I usually just post threads on other forums that I am looking for staff. Whoever replies and tells me they want to be part of the staff, I interview them and see if they're a good fit.

Ii usually expect them to be online daily and post daily. Also for them to help out with advertising and gaining new members.

I have never tried searching for a staff when I started my forum because I had trust issues when it comes to the internet world. However, if I seek some staff, I make it sure they have past experiences in administrating forums (so I don't need to train them so much). I would start posting on promotion forums when finding staff, then on the SNS.

I typically post a thread. Once my site is more active with members I will simply ask established members if they're interested. As far as questions, I tend to stay away from questions truthfully. Anyone can give you the answers you want to hear. I go view their posts on my forum and other forums alike. Their quality, mannerism, and "personality" tend to be given away, especially on other forums where they do not suspect I am watching Wink I desire genuine staff members that are exactly who they claim to be 100 percent of the time.

I prefer to ask active members on my site if they are interested in becoming staff members, or I will post a thread letting everyone know about an open position.

In the past, I haven't had very good luck when asking on other promotion forums, as they have just shown up, posted a few things, then I never see them again. I prefer giving it to people who are already on the site, it can be seen as a reward to those who contributed.

I agree with Guardian.
I would offer it to already existing active members rather than ask at some other place.

So far I haven't had a need to appoint any staff in any forum that I had. We just start the forum with 2-3 admins and such and we don't really find the need to have multiple moderators.

However soon I believe we will need to have some moderators on my forum Smile

It's the hardest in the beginning if you have no friends who are interested in your forum's niché. I have an application topic open where anyone can apply. The staffs are rated each month and if someone does poorly, or is super inactive, we say goodbye to them.

If I had more active members, I'd ask the activest ones if they are interested in certain staff positions.

When I start a forum, I always look for one or two moderators to help with advertising, testing, and with the launch of the forum. I usually go straight to online friends of mine, whether I met them through gaming or a forum, because we have a connection and an established friendship (which makes it easier). Aside from that, I do also post publicly on promotion forums that I am accepting applications for a moderator position. I usually get a few interests from users and take them through an interview process to decide whether they can be trusted and if they carry the right experience.

Honestly, it may be a bit bias, however I like to have people who I know or have worked with/or currently work with as my staff. I know a lot of people as I am a GM. So for me I think about it like that. Remove the entire process and put in who I trust even if I have to teach them. This helps me because then I don't have to worry about anything.

I have trust issues, so I prefer to be the sole staff in my forum at first. If I need more help, then I'd choose staff from those whom I have known for a long time.
