Is it a good idea to hide the unwanted content?

I came across this feature in mybb, where the posts that moderators delete are just hiding themselves from normal users view. I appreciate this feature as well as I despise it too. They effect the post count of a forum but without adding any true value to the forum content. There is some real unwanted content like when people fight though. We should hide those posts from users. Still, I prefer to delete that stuff when compared to just hiding them.

What about you guys? Do you feel the same?

I think hiding the posts is equivalent to moving them to trash which is only visible to staff/admins.
I am on phpBB so I don't have this specific option but I do move things to trash when needed so I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

As long as it is out of view, I don't see a problem with this. However, I do personally like to permanently delete stuff I don't need to save storage space so that might be an issue if you have a lot of posts being hidden.

I usually tend to send those types of posts to the trash, and I have the trash section usually hidden from anyone but the staff. I think simply just hiding it looks bad on a forum.

I prefer hiding it from view than totally deleting it. For future purposes will be my reason, especially when someone appeals a ban (for members with disruptive behaviors etc.). Anyhow, I wouldn't like to deduce the number of posts in the forum except when the said posts are purely and obviously a spam.

I do think it's a good idea to get rid of unwanted content. There are some content that you just don't want to leave out there where everyone can see it because feelings will get hurt or it will cause hate among members or anything else like that.

Whether you believe in deleting it or putting it in the trash, that's a different discussion. I have a "recycle bin" on my forum where I put all the unwanted content on my forum.
