How long until shutdown?

When you go about going through all the things that are required to get a forum going, how much time and effort do you put into it before you usually decide whether this is working out or if the niche is even right for you?

If it doesn't seem like people are sticking around how long before you close the doors?

If activity is starting to slow down, I give it about a month or two to try and get activity picking up again. If I promote, and add new topics everyday and no one is active, I pull the plug.

After one month, if the activity has never gone to significance, I'll probably shut down the forum. Nonetheless, I'll exhaust all means of advertisements and promotions until I go on the final decision of shutting it down.
