What is your forum staff hiring process like? What qualifications, if any, must they have?

On my forum there is an application you have to fill out, x amount of posts/threads made and then if you pass the application process, there is an interview (conducted through Skype). Unfortunately, even with that we have had problems with staff member retention due to personality issues (rudeness, power hungry, unlikeable, etc). It mainly seems to happen with outside hires. It will be interesting to see others ideas and if there is anything we can implement.

I generally like to have my staff have so many posts made on the forum, and generally to be a member for a little while before they are typically allowed as staff. When it comes to positions like moderation, I try to conduct an interview with them, asking them various different questions about themselves, and how they would react to certain things. Based on their answers, and if they show respect, depends usually on if they get the job or not.

And on the respect part, that is a big one for me. If they can't respect me for asking them some personal questions about themselves, then why should I have them on staff? I mean, it is like getting a job, you have to impress the guy doing the hiring and interviewing. You can have the best application and resume in the world, yet be denied a job, based on how one interacts with the interviewer.

I only hire people who are already active in the community. I wouldn't ever consider hiring someone from outside, because you really don't know anything about them, and there's no way to confirm anything they say is true. When you hire someone who is already active, then you know they're already dedicated to the community and you know their personality. I haven't had any problems hiring this way.

- have a certain amount of posts
- been registered for few weeks at least
- no warnings
etc

i think forum owners who hire people without a proper process
don't even think about it
forum owners who hire somebody who only been around for couple days or a week
my opinion; unprofessional and thats because you slightly have more of a chance that way you will hire people who are no good & are untrustworthy because they only do it for the power.
