All I need is the right software

I know I have thought this in my younger days as a forum administrator...I always use to think..."well if I can just get the right forum software I am going to have floods of people coming in and posting on my forum!"

Have you ever thought this?

I'll admit that I have thought of this in the past... I thought that having paid forum software will somehow magically make my forum grow. However I don't believe that the forum software has anything to do with the success of a forum. It takes hard work and dedication to create a community and make it grow.

Yeah I kind of feel silly looking back on that and thinking a paid forum software would give me the boost I needed to get a bigger community...which mind you a big community is all I cared about.

@Sonikku1011 I wouldn't say it has nothing to do with success of a forum. A good forum software does increase the chances of success by quite a bit. But in the end it boils down to your content.
A good forum software will give you the boost to kick off but a while later you have to peddle the boat yourself.
With free softwares, you have to peddle and get a momentum going on by yourself which requires more effort but if you can do it, that's fun too Very Happy

I am members of some ZetaBoards (free). They are very activate. It is not because of the software, but of the content. The boards are for the PC game Zoo Tycoon.

There's no such thing as "the right software" in my opinion. Some scripts have more features and better-looking themes than others, and while they can give you some advantage when it comes to attracting new members, at the end of the day content is all that matters. There are huge forums running on free scripts and there are small forums out there that run on licensed software that costs hundreds of dollars.

I have also thought of the same question way back. But as I grew up, I realized that it isn't on the software you are going to use. It is on how you improve that software to something that you dream it'd be.
