Flyers - Are they effective?

I was considering printing out a bunch of flyers and finding different places to post them (e.g. bulletin boards in coffee shops, library, etc). I wonder how effective they might be though. Have you ever tried this method of advertising? I imagine it would be difficult to track the traffic that comes in that way but I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a go.

If your forum being advertised is really that essential to people in that community, then I believe you can assure to yourself that there would be memberships.

You could offer something on the flyer. In this way, you could track the traffic from the flyers.

Wow that's a brilliant idea. I will have to implement some sort of offer. Perhaps forum currency just for mentioning the flyer. Thank you for that.

I would love to try this one out, but I don't have the idea on what to put on the flyer to make it enticing aside from the forum name and its services.

I think that is more than enough information to put on a flyer - you don't want your flyer to be too wordy as people may not take the time to look at it. If you have Microsoft Word they have templates you can use to make flyers. I'm sure you can search for free templates online as well if you're having trouble coming up with a layout.

From what I've seen, people usually throw away fliers without even bothering to look at them. I doubt many people would actually take the flier home, start their PC and type the site address from the flier into their browser.

Actually, there are a good number of people that will look things up, if they see a flyer. There was a site I used to be on, that a large majority of the member base on it, was because of flyers. A good way to use a flyer, is to have slips you can tear off, so that if they are interested by what the flyer states, they will have a small piece of paper with the url on it.
