Reminiscing the past

We have been so occupied with our tasks that we need to do for our future. Why not take a break and reminisce for a while the things that are memorable for you. Do you have any very significant events in life in the past that are worth sharing? Post them here and let's enjoy looking back at it.

In my case, I'd love to remember my elementary days. Being so attached with nature that time is so much fun. We have an oval at the back of our school, then next to that is a forest. There were times when we go to that forest during lunch time, and scare ourselves out by telling horror stories about creatures inhabiting there. Then, before we go to our 1pm class, we'd pass by the river and enjoy its wonders.

Period:  Middle School ( Fall 1985 - Spring 1989)
I went to a Scotish Rite hospital to be tested.  I was diagnosed with a learning disability.  It was a form of dyslexia.  It is not the form that people have where they see letters and numbers backwards.  I went to a special school for about 2 months after going to regular school.  I was taught phonetics which is no longer taught in school.  Before I started, I was about 3 grade levels behind my classmates.  In the first two weeks of my freshman year, I was retested.  I was exactly ahead by one grade level.

This is such a nice idea for a thread. I enjoyed reading both of your experiences.

Here goes mine:

I remember when I was in the 6th grade, I walked into the music room to prepare for a band rehearsal and the elementary school teacher was teaching a class and she asked her students "Does anyone here know what multi-talented means?" and when no one answered she explained that it means when someone is capable of doing many things that not everyone knows or wants to do. Then she waved her hand in my direction and said "Take this young lady for instance, she plays the clarinet for the school band. She also sings in our choir, she is also in the Selected Choir group, and she is Mediator which is someone who volunteers their time to help other students work out their problems when there is a disagreement. Sharon is a great example of a multi-talented person." It felt really nice to be recognized like that.

Okay, here goes mine:

There was one particular day in 9th grade, I was sitting in the middle of band rehearsal and I was doing my usual thing (I had band class every day and it was 4th period that year, if I'm not mistaken). The wife of the band director (who happens to be a band director herself), she came up to me and the two guys sitting next to me and she said, "The three of you are playing really well today. I wish everyone played like you are playing right now."

I had taken that as a compliment and felt really good for the rest of the day....
