How do you usually structure your staff team? Is it pretty standard or do you really put some thought into it to make it so you have enough staff to get you by but you don't have to have a bunch of different groups?

I actually like the way Forum Promocean hahs it setup here.

It depends on the niche of the forum. I usually just have a Admin and Moderator staff group set up, and I never have separate moderators for certain sub forums, since I assume that my Global Mods can help keep the forum in check. But for a promotional forum that offers services should have around, if not the same set up that Forum Promocean has.

I'll just list my usergroup structure.

Admins - Moderators - Specific Forum Moderators (with a title related to the forum's subject) - A version of valued contributers - VIPs. So yeah, I usually only have 3 actual staff groups.

I have an admin, a moderator, and a super moderator. Currently, no one is a super moderator, but I have two regular moderators and one admin other than me. I don't really need a lot of staff since my forum isn't that big, though.

What I have in my mind is simply an Admin and some Forum Managers. Since I am thinking of a general discussion forum, having too much people in the staff may not look good. Maybe an addition of Valued Contributors would be good to have.

At first I had several staff positions offered with certain job descriptions and roles, so that people wouldn't be overwhelmed with their duties, however, no one really wanted to apply, so I merged some groups, and basically has only 4 positions, Admin - Moderator - Graphician - Tech Guru, now.

Tech Gurus help with the additions of new features, Moderators has the duties of average moderators and Graphicians are like Graphic Designers, but they also has some additional and special roles due to the niché of my forum. Smile

My staff structure is very simple.

- I am the only Admin and will keep it that way. I don't like giving anyone else Admin powers.
- I have 1 Global Moderator and plan on keeping it that way as well, unless I absolutely have to had another one. The GMod is basically the No. 2 of the site, but doesn't have any administrative authority, just the highest level of Moderator authority. I might, down the road, make them the team leader of the Moderator team.
- The rest of my staff are Regular Moderators. They have basic Mod powers and the power the warn, but not to ban.

I like to structure it as basic as possible, so usually go with the standard;

Owner
Admin
Moderator

In some cases, depending on the niche of the forum, there are other groups. For example, a promotion forum would also include a review team and package team.

I don't feel the need for a super moderator as I like to take control of anything major which happens on the forum.

Do your Moderators only Moderate one Forum?

Usually one category each however I often only have two or three discussion categories (excluding the announcements etc). This method ensures that all boards get moderated without missing anything and as moderators are responsible for keeping their category active, helps keep all boards active.

I just re-read my previous post and to avoid confusion, when I say 'anything major' it usually means spam across the whole forum or misbehaving members etc. Less issues if I deal with them myself.

I've kept it very simple on my forum. Just two groups; administrators and moderators. Moderators can moderate all forums.
