Signatures and Activity

Aside from joining forums and creating a topic advertising your forum, placing a link in your signature has proven to be effective. Posting and being active on a forum you signed up on will ensure that your forum link is seen in several locations, and your activity has a factor. Whenever you post on a forum, your link will be seen by the viewers of that thread. I've seen members and staff join forums of active members of their forum because it's an act of generosity. When you like someone who has been active and engaging in conversations all across your forum, helping you out, you feel as if it's necessary to check out their forum and maybe help them out. This has happened to me in the past and has introduced me to several new members on my forums who are admins of their own forum in which I am registered on.

That's great to hear! I didn't know that kind of advertising is effective, though logic would obviously say that with your link seen through your signature in a forum, people would really have the chance to check your forum out. I'll try doing more of that signature advertising more often and hopefully get members.

Yeah, I agree that having a link to your forum in the signature on other forums increases the chances of other members checking it out and eventually joining...

I'll join the majority who says it is an effective advertisement to have in a signature. With the logic given that everyone can see the link on someone's signature, members will have a chance to click and register.

I absolutely agree with this. Unfortunately I haven't got as much free time as I used to in the past and was able to engage in multiple forums on the daily basis and I must agree it absolutely helped boost traffic to my own forum. It definitely works though if you can take the time and help other forum owners post on their own forums they tend to return the favor without even being asked to.

May I also add that the kind of signature you have will also affect memberships to your forum when it is advertised on a sig. Having it look plain wouldn't give much. However, if it is creatively designed, it increases the probability of people clicking it and signing in to the site. I don't know for others, but this is what I have always observed.

That kind of advertising can be effective as long as you are making quality posts. If you are posting garbage, then nobody is going to want to join your forum. It isn't just about advertising, it's just as much about how you behaving and creating friendships with others outside of your community.
