Do you ever advertise on Skype by sending mass messages to all your contacts asking them to join your forums?

I don't use Skype that much, so I don't have a lot of contact there (just my sister because she's abroad). Well, thinking that the contacts you may have on your Skype may be close to you, so advertising your forum to them may help you out boost memberships and hopefully, activity.

I haven't tried advertising on Skype, but it seems interesting. Would you mind sharing its effect to your forum in terms of traffic and membership?

No effect whatsoever, unless you count the fact that several people have blocked me as an effect... Very Happy

I guessed the right result. People may have the tendency of blocking you in Skype because they think you are a spammer/ scammer.

It turns out that nobody blocked me after all. They were just offline when I messaged them. However, they did not want to join my forums.

I don't like the idea of advertising on Skype. I rarely talk to anyone on Skype and I imagine they'd be pretty annoyed if I randomly asked them to join my site, with barely a hello. Now, if I was having an extended conversation with someone and somewhere in the chat I get to mention my site, then that's cool, but I don't think I'd ever want to randomly send links to everyone on my friends list.

Advertising is kinda tricky. I mean, we try to move away from advertisements for some reason XD
I don't, therefore, mass message my contacts on any place. Just ask a friend to check it out. And then I ask him how he likes the idea and everything and if he would like to help out and spread the word Smile

I add it to my Skype Profile and ask a few friends, but sending out mass messages just really annoys people, the amount of times I've been invited to conversations with 1,000+ people advertising their forums and it just annoys me...

Mass messaging indeed is annoying. There should be another way to advertise on Skype without being too obvious for it.

Generally speaking, as alakazam mentioned, going straight to advertising without discussing something before hand generally doesn'thelp with bringing people from Skype, as I have seen this happen quite a bit to a good number of people. I am more likely to join a forum via skype, if the person talked to me about different things, then asked me to join.
